Bali's Two Seasons
Bali has a tropical climate with two distinct seasons: the dry season (April to October) and the wet season (November to March). But unlike many tropical destinations, Bali can be visited year-round — each season has its own unique appeal.
Dry Season (April to October)
This is peak travel time in Bali. Days are sunny, humidity is lower, and the ocean is calm and clear — ideal for snorkeling, diving, and surfing the famous breaks of Uluwatu and Padang Padang.
Best months: May, June, and September offer excellent weather with slightly fewer tourists than the peak July to August school holiday period.
July to August: Busiest and most expensive time of year. Book accommodation and tours well in advance.
Wet Season (November to March)
Don't be put off by the wet season — it rarely rains all day. Most days see a few hours of heavy afternoon rainfall, leaving mornings and evenings clear. Prices drop significantly (up to 40% on accommodation) and the landscape is spectacularly lush and green.
Month by Month
January to February: Wet season peak. Heavy afternoon rains, lush scenery, lowest prices, fewest tourists. Perfect for budget travelers.
March to April: Rain begins to ease, waterfalls are at their fullest. Nyepi (Balinese Day of Silence) usually falls in March — a unique experience where the whole island shuts down for 24 hours.
May to June: Arguably the best months to visit. Dry season begins, prices haven't peaked, and crowds are manageable.
July to August: Peak season. Best weather but busiest and most expensive.
September to October: The dry season continues, school holidays end, prices drop, and Bali quiets down.
November to December: Wet season begins. Prices drop, crowds thin. Christmas and New Year bring a surge of visitors and prices spike for the last week of December.
Special Events
Nyepi (Day of Silence): March or April — all activity stops island-wide for 24 hours. A truly unique and humbling experience.
Bali Arts Festival: June or July — a month-long celebration of Balinese art, music, and dance.
